Topic: Steam Backlog Discussion

Everyone who games on PC has one.

I wanted to create a thread for people to talk about their explorations into their unplayed or unfinished Steam games, and to encourage people to dive back into the well of older experiences they already have access to.

I'll start: leading up to the release of the new Fire Emblem on Switch 2, I wanted to play something short enough that I wouldn't be in the middle of a game when that dropped, but also substantive, and especially something that's been in my 'to play' list forever. That's when I remembered I'd stopped playing the Spyro Reignited Trilogy on Steam around the end of the second game. Partly because I'd never played Spyro 3 (or 'Spyro: Year of the Dragon') at all on PS1, and thus didn't have the same sort of nostalgic connection I had with the other two, and especially the original.

I just finished it tonight. It was.... alright. Decent. It's lacking the purity of the original, but also the more compelling antagonist of the second game, with the final conflict with the Sorceress just sort of happening. I'm also unsure how I feel about the focus on a plethora of playable characters who are all much less fun to control than Spyro himself.

That said, it's still a PS1-era Insomniac platformer, which means it's still extremely fun, even if it's possibly the least of the trilogy. And visually, like all the other Reignited Games, it's such a glorious upgrade from the PS1 graphics. I'll likely continue to work on 100%ing it as I chase all of the Steam cheevos for the game.

I've been hopping back and forth between my PC and Steam Deck as I played this. Maxed out settings and framerate here, and medium settings at 45fps locked on Steam Deck. I really love the flexibility of this setup.

Well, talking about Spyro Reignited, I did the first two games and stopped playing a few hours in the third, I had enough. But I should get back to it someday to finish it and unlock all the achievements as well

If I'm not mistaken, I did the same thing with the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy, didn't finish the third neither after finishing the two first games. There is a pattern here

A game I have on my backlog that I will launch before the end of the year? It has to be The Witcher 3, I'll discover the game once the remaster is out at the end of the month. And, I wasn't thinking about it when I wrote that but I also played the two first games and never took the time to play the third ! Hopefuly Half-Life 3 never got released, it would still be in my backlog

I've been hammering away at my back catalogue across Steam and GOG for some time now and the results have been pretty good.

While I still buy the occasional game I tend to lean more toward shorter, less time demanding titles.

I rarely buy new AAA games these days and not just because they tend to have huge levels of bloat, but the homogenisation of AAA games has made them less interesting to me.

All that being said, I no longer look at my back catalogue and sigh at the sheer volume. Quite the opposite. I've hundreds of games to play and enjoy and do so regularly. I just play whatever takes my mood. Something new, something I've previously enjoyed, something I began and jump back into. It all depends on the day.
