I'm sure many of you are familiar with the amazing social game Rec Room. This social VR experience gave users a virtual world to hang out and play games in, all in one place.
If you are familiar with Rec Room, you probably know about the unfortunate closure of its services in June of this year, exactly 10 years after its release. This left many players (myself included) devastated and wondering what the Rec Room team would cook up after this upsetting event; after a few months of waiting, we now know.
Serious Bigness is a game from ex-Rec Room designers about destroying a city, going from a small Kaiju to a massive monster by destroying as much as you can, with each object destroyed increasing your size.
You use not only your body, but also your fangs as you tear down buildings and skyscrapers (or anything you see, for that matter), and you trample over the rubble-filled streets. Beware, though; destroying the city takes a lot out of your not-so-little Kaiju, so you'll need to factor in nap times.
This chaotic experience will be punctuated by the amazing music of Cameron "Gribbly" Brown himself, Rec Room co-founder and music producer; he's responsible for some of my favourite video game music ever, so I'm pretty gassed about his involvement here.
Serious Bigness has a very simple but stylised design philosophy, which carries the Rec Room DNA for sure – and if you're a fan of the defunct VR game, I'm sure you will dig it as much as I do. The physics-based destruction gels well with this bright and cute art direction, giving things a slightly 'Katamari Damacy' feel, with fun, easy, and aimless destruction being front and centre.
Serious Bigness will release in 2027, and while the price is not yet announced, you can wishlist it now on Steam (and don't forget to go forth and give it your Rec Room best).
