Developer Christopher Yabsley is creating a 3D love letter to the likes of Diablo, and he wants you to join the horrific ride.

Heathen is a first-person action RPG set in a single, sprawling dungeon, one that contains "an ancient horror never meant for mortal eyes." This procedurally generated labyrinth is packed with loot and guarded by all manner of fearsome beasts, and Yabsley is adamant about making this epic quest as scary as possible.

You're given the chance to pick from a trio of character types – the Mercenary, the Cutthroat, or the Acolyte – and each run into the dungeon could see you grow in power or succumb to an early grave.

Thankfully, you can recover your health and resupply at the hub town of Saltgrave, where you'll also get the chance to speak with various NPCs. "Each carries a story, fragments of a past best left buried," says Yabsley. "They will reveal their truths… if you would but stay a moment and listen."

"Heathen brings true horror back to the ARPG mix," adds the developer. "The deeper you descend, the more the world distorts. The air thickens with the stench of death. Unspeakable creatures crawl through the darkness. You are nothing more than a flickering lantern in the void." Sounds like a hoot!

Heathen's release window is still unconfirmed, but I'd highly recommend adding it to your wishlist now.
