Being a zombie is probably a fate worse than death, which I can assume doesn't sound all that cool to most people – but in Stupid Never Dies, being a zombie is Davy's biggest strength in his quest to save his (already dead) true love, who has been completely frozen in ice since he met her.
I know, this is a weird setup, but stick with me. Davy must embark on a roguelike quest through perilous dungeon levels to find the KOM (King of Monsters, in case you were wondering), regain humanity's knowledge, and somehow save his new love, who is completely unaware of his existence. Poor Davy.
Taking on many forms (11 in total), from a wolf to a winged beast, Davy has plenty of tricks up his sleeve, and every dive into the dungeon makes him stronger as he harvests the powers of his fallen foes.
Along with his shapeshifting, power-stealing antics, newfound strength can be found in the cybernetic enhancements called "Overtech" that Davy can equip between runs. Chop off Davy's various body parts (sorry, Davy) and replace them with new, improved cybernetics, letting you experiment with different builds and combine new body parts for Davy to use on his quest.
Overtech isn't just for you; however, Davy can encounter a vast array of monsters that are, sadly for him, enhanced by Overtech, including but not limited to vampires, werewolves, lizardmen and more, which will all be even more formidable than before.
Suffice to say, this seriously mixes things up, making each run feel at least a little different. Can Davy muster up the courage and gain the power to save his one true love? Well, that's where you come in, of course.
Overall, Stupid Never Dies is a charming 3D action RPG that is oozing with flavour and style, feeling truly unique and standing out boldly in a droves of games that feel all too similar.
If this atypical zombie action sounds worth a bite, Stupid Never Dies is out now for a pretty hefty £39.99, or £49.99 for the "Glorious idiot edition", but it's made up for by the free demo.
