Zenless Zone Zero has been a personal favourite RPG of mine for many reasons; everything from the character design to the setting of the game world just speaks to me in the best ways possible (especially as a huge fan of anything Sci-Fi/Cyberpunk), and the consistent updates pushing the game forward keep me coming back week after week.

This latest one is no different, containing two new phenomenal-looking agents, three W-Engines, a story chapter, two areas, enemies, and much, much more to unpack. So buckle up, this seems like it is going to be a long one!

To start, let's have a look at the two brand new agents arriving in this update:

  • Phoenix, who is a fire-anomaly agent obtainable from the "Into the flames of life" signal search in phase 1
  • Severian, a wind-attack agent obtainable from the "Answers in the wind" signal search in phase 2

I am personally really happy with both of these characters, but I am especially happy that we have gotten a really cool male character, too, as, if we are being honest, Zenless Zone Zero often favours the female character designs (ahem); this is by no means a bad thing, but it is nice to get a good male design.

These 2 agents also come with their respective trust and quality time missions and rewards, letting you get to know them even better and earn some pretty cool goodies from it (assuming you have the agents, of course), along with new outfits for both, if you are into that, being:

  • Phoenix: The Illness Called Life
  • Phoenix: Daydream Complex
  • Severian: Solemnly Impeccable

These outfits are on sale for a limited time, and you can buy both "The Illness Called Life" and "Daydream Complex" in the "Empty Daydreams" bundle for a limited time. Get them before they return to full price!

Alongside these brand-new characters, returning characters Velina (phase 1) and Norma (phase 2) will make an appearance, both with their respective W-Engines.

Joining these 4 agents are going to be 3 new W-Engines, these being:

  • Plume of Rebirth, Anomaly S-Rank W-Engine available through the "Plume of Rebirth" signal search
  • Incarcerating Grip, Attack S-Rank W-Engine available through the "Incarcerating Grip" signal search
  • Candlelit Scheme, Armourer A-Rank W-Engine available through the limited-time event "Spooky Funhouse Tales" in this version, 3.3.

After you have pulled (or perhaps lost on) one of these W-Engines or agents, go ahead and take the next step into the proxies journey with the all-new Season 3 story, Chapter 4, unlocking 2 new areas as you go:

  • Roscaelifer - [Restricted Area] Quietude Isle, unlocked in the main story Season 3 Chapter 4
  • Roscaelifer - [Restricted Area] Airspace Control Tower, also unlocked in the main story Season 3 Chapter 4

And as usual with almost every update now, it feels like Zenless Zone Zero is handing out free polychromes (300) for people who log in and reach internot level 4 (virtually everyone playing) under the title of "issue fix compensation", which is probably for server issues, same as they generously do each time any issues with anything arise – hey, I am certainly not complaining! But maybe they are a little too generous sometimes.

Aside from the new characters and story, a plethora (and a big one at that) of new events are also going to be making an appearance, them being:

  • All-New Program
  • Spooky Funhouse Tales
  • Cyber Miracle Healer, on Duty!
  • Advanced Bounty: Area Patrol
  • "En-Nah" Into Your Lap
  • Trails of the Hobbling Crow
  • Repair! Drifting Art
  • Data Bounty: Combat Simulation

These will be joined by an all-new gameplay feature featuring our favourite sidekicks: the humble Bangboo!

This update adds Bangboo mechs, allowing proxies to take control of them and fight using either ranged or melee, with the freedom to switch between the two mid-combat. This isn't the only combat change, though, as 3.3 adds new enemies, and quite a sizeable number, providing new variation in combat encounters, which is great to see.

While I have tried my best to cover the important things arriving in this update, I simply couldn't cover it all, and what you consider important may differ from what I do. So if you want to look into every nook and cranny of this update, head over and read the official patch notes on the Steam page here, but I do warn you, there are a lot of them.
