We're four days into our Autumn Sale 2026 coverage, and clearly losing our minds, as we've decided to fall down all of the brain-bending rabbit-holes at once. Today, we're shining a spotlight on five discounted games that might seem relatively simple or mundane on the surface, but unfurl into layered mysteries that will make your brain ache and necessitate opening up a notebook to scribble feverish interconnected notes. Beware, mysteries abound:

ANIMAL WELL PC

30% Discount - Probably the most accessible of these games today, because on the surface level, Animal Well just appears to be a regular metroidy exploration platformer without combat. Sure, you're collecting tools that let you sometimes break or throw things, but the creatures in this strange labyrinth aren't your enemies, just sometimes-surly neighbors. In fact, you can wrap it up and roll credits in an afternoon/evening. And that's when you start really puzzling things out, hunting for ever more obscure secrets, all leading to some weirder truth. As an aside, if you liked this, you'll love EMUUROM.

Blue Prince PC

40% Discount - A layer-cake of brainteasers. On the surface, a simple tabletop/rogulike-style drafting challenge, trying to lay out a map of randomly drawn rooms that'll let you reach your goals while juggling draining resources. But each room is also a first-person Myst-like puzzle experience unto itself. And some rooms interact with their neighbors. And some things require manipulating problems across multiple runs. And it just keeps spiralling and spiralling FAR beyond the end credits. Solo developer Dogubomb has threatened a fairly major content update coming to this one in the nearish future, including some minigames and almost certainly more puzzles to unravel.

Outer Wilds PC

50% Discount - Possibly the least tricky and deceptive of the games here, but no less mind-expanding. You are a funny little alien, and the latest in your species to be handed the keys to a rickety wooden spacecraft - there's a universe to explore! For half an hour. And then the sun explodes. Good thing you're trapped in a time-loop? Piecing together what's going on, what you can do about it, and just what everything means is a spellbinding journey that every player explores and maps out in their own unique way. The Echoes of the Eye expansion adds a massive new story arc with some horror elements, too.

TUNIC PC

50% Discount - Another fascinatingly deceptive game. On the surface, this is a Zelda-like adventure with a little bit of Dark Souls inspiration. It's also a damn good one, with gorgeous art and music. But for those willing to dig a little deeper, there is SO much here. Layers of puzzles and mysteries, many of them built around the game's instruction manual, which you can view in game, finding extra pages in the various dungeons to explore. The good news is that it's often handy and beautifully illustrated. The bad news is that much of it is in the game's own mysterious runic language. Have fun puzzling that out!

La-Mulana 2 PC

60% Discount - While I'd recommend people start with the first game in this series, the sequel is arguably a little easier to puzzle out. Inspired by classic MSX puzzle platformers, the La-Mulana series pit their Indiana Jones-esque heroes against a deadly, trap-filled labyrinth of monsters and mysteries. While you'll need some platforming skill to tackle the dangers (including some great setpiece bosses), you'll want to keep a BIG notebook. These games force you to think like an archaeologist, tracing the lineages of gods, mapping esoteric riddles to map coordinates and slowly coming to the realization that this is as much Myst as Castlevania.

So, got lost in any good rabbit-holes this weekend? Think we missed out a great one (yeah, Void Stranger wasn't discounted, we know) and want to shout it out? That's what the comments below are for. But in the meantime, head on back to our Autumn Sale 2026 hub to catch up with this week's best, weirdest, most interesting sales picks.
