Whew, what a week! A deluge of games big and small. No matter how hard we try (and we absolutely have tried), we can't stop the planet spinning, so picking and choosing what to play over the weekend takes a little soul-searching.
So here's what we're planning on doing over the next few days, PC gaming-wise:
Dominic Tarason (Lead Staff Writer)
Last night, I sank five hours into CONTROL Resonant, although a good chunk of that was just marveling at all the little bits of incidental detail and writing in its world - nobody does it quite like Remedy. Definitely making more time for this one.
I'm also going to try to get a bit further in Onimusha: Way of the Sword, which continues to have some of the most spectacular character animation and boss fights I've seen in an action game.
And lastly, I really need to take a bigger bite out of vampire RPG Nighthawks, which continues to feel like all of the cool character bits and vibes of Vampire: Bloodlines reduced down into something hazardously potent.
Anthony Dickens (Founder & CEO)
Y'know I was a huge fan of Quake III Arena, it easily sits in my top-five defining moments in gaming. So, with the recent announcement about Quake Champions, it feels like the perfect time to dive in and play an entry that I haven't played before. Maybe it's because Quake had its moment and things moved on, but it still feels like a game worthy of at least a small slice of my weekend.
Damien McFerran (Editorial Director)
I've been looking forward to it for months, but this week I've finally gotten my hands on Alien Breed 35th Anniversary, and it's a wonderful tribute to one of the Amiga's most iconic series. The emulation is fantastic, and little improvements – such as twin-stick support – make it more playable than ever (and perhaps a little less frustrating). To cap it off, the 'digital museum' section is packed with content on the creation of these games. More of this, please!
Noah McFerran (Jnr Staff Writer)
After going down the train simulator pipeline, I have settled on buying Train Simulator Classic and am really excited to get deep into it this weekend. Despite this The Blood of Dawnwalker still has a firm grip on me, with my 3rd playthrough well underway!
And that's a wrap for us! We'll see you on the other side of the weekend, but until then, let us know what you're playing too. And of course, let us know if our recommendations led you to any games that you've loved this week. We like a little reassurance sometimes.
Peace!

Darkenstein 3D (PC)
A homage to Wolfenstein 3D, with a slight twist: you're a hobo out to get his dog, Gunther, back from the Nazis - and its bloody brilliant. The added bonus is that it's completely free.
Samson (PC)
What if Driver and GTA were to have offspring? - Samson.
Sure it's a little rough around the edges, but the gameplay is solid with excellent vehicle physics and satisfying combat. For the £10 I paid I've no real complaints.
Immortals Fenyx Rising (Xbox)
Played this just a little over the halfway point on my PS4 before giving my copy to my daughter.
Seeing it in the Xbox sale for £3.49 I snapped it. Bright, colourful and bags of fun.
Playing some more Control Resonant, I'm having a lot of fun with it and I'm surprised by how well optimized it is.
I’ve been slowly working my way through Control Ultimate Edition. I had no idea a sequel was coming out when I bought it and started playing it. Also have been playing Ender Lilies. Both of these I am playing in pretty short sessions, so they will take me quite a while to get through.
Friday night was all Control Resonant, I got through to the Evacuation Zone then felt too sleepy to continue so called it. Really enjoying it so far even if I prefer gun combat to melee. I hadn’t realised how much I missed the big white text in Remedy games when entering a new area.
Last night I ended up plying a bunch of Switch 2 things. I finally tried out the updated VRR on my TV. I have 2 docks connected to supposedly VRR displays and my PC already let me down since the capture card I have (Elgato 4K X) seems to just freeze and display a single frame and there is also something wrong with the TV setup since every 2-3 seconds it blanks the screen and changes mode like I’m turning HDR on and off. It works fine for my PS5 and Xbox so need to troubleshoot that at some point.
Then I went back to something comforting to console myself over future AV amp troubleshooting and played a bunch of Wind Waker on GameCube Classics. Got up to the big tower dungeon which is where I also got up to on the Wii U version (I did complete the GameCube original back in the day), I then capped the night off with the first level of Homefront which I have had a weird urge to play in recent days despite never playing it prior and knowing it isn’t very good. I can now confirm that yeah it’s an incredibly mid shooter from 2011.
Tonight I think I will be going back to Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter as I haven’t played since Thursday and that’s too long. My copy of Fire Emblem Fortunes Weave did just arrive though so that will be tempting. Will this be the game to break my Fire Emblem curse of playing it for 10 hours before being distracted by something else? Only time will tell.
I gave a second chance to the System Shock Remake... and I can now say the game is not for me.
Just the usual World of Warcraft Anniversary Classic. Just got my Orc Warlock to level 40 and I am looking to wrap up some quests in Dustwallow Marsh. Still trying to get into the WoW Forever Beta but at this point I probably won't be playing that till it launches.
Other then that I will be working on some characters on D&D Beyond for my weekly D&D games.
After taking a pretty long break from gaming, I've been jumping between Boltgun & Ruffy and the Riverside for the past week or so.
Two quite different experiences that are good to bounce between depending on my mood.
I'm getting close to the end of Elementallis, a 2D-Zelda-like with pleasing exploration and puzzles, and a pretty interesting story with a darker tone than its bright graphics would suggest!
