A weird week, this one, but with some really big, long-awaited releases and the start of Steam Hype's first round of Steam sale coverage! We're proud of what we're doing here, but scheduled stuff aside, we're off to relax and actually play some games.
We gave our crew a poke to find out what their weekend gaming plans are. Here's what they said:
Dominic Tarason (Lead Staff Writer)
After seven long years, Ace Combat is back and better than ever. I've only scratched the surface of ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE, and had a great time. The flight model is heavier, but the sci-fi melodrama is most intense than ever. A band getting back together in the middle of a dogfight? Fighting while weaving between the mushroom-cloud explosions of a colossal railgun bombardment? That's just the first few missions. Beyond that, I'm going to be playing Retro Space, which feels like System Shock 2 in fast-forward so far, with a very Futurama sense of humor.
Damien McFerran (Editorial Director)
As a massive, massive Castlevania fan, the demo for Belmont's Curse has been occupying my attention this week. I'm still skeptical that it can come anywhere close to matching the brilliance of Symphony of the Night – perhaps my favorite game of all time, and certainly my favorite Castlevania entry – but what I've played so far has certainly hooked me, and I can't wait for the full release later this month.
Noah McFerran (Jnr Staff Writer)
Having picked up Hell Let Loose: Vietnam just yesterday (and playing it into the early hours of today, oops) I will be diving into it over the weekend, and with The Blood of Dawnwalker finally taking more of a backseat, Marvel's Wolverine can be given a chance to shine as I make my way through that game, too.
And while we've got some fun stuff lined up for you over the weekend, the crew are dispersing, scattering to the gaming winds. We'll see you all on Monday!
Be rootin', be tootin', but above all: Be kind.

I finished Control Resonant last night so I plan on going back to Well Dweller.
With it being spooky month I also want to play some Scream Fortress in TF2.
I'm still playing Ultrakill. It's so much fun!
Fortune’s Weave, Control Resonant, and Well Dweller. While I’ve barely played any games this week, I’m hoping to establish some good time into at least one of them. I’d like to beat two of them at least before Castlevania, but I don’t know how likely it is I’ll even beat one of them by that time.
I’ve got $75 of PS credit on my account right now and I was planning on buying another game (either Dawnwalker or Ace Combat, I was reckoning, but then I forgot about Galactic Racer, which, as much as I’ve burnt out of Star Wars, is basically a sequel to my favorite Star Wars game and it reviewed so well), but honestly, I’m enjoying everything I have to play so much right now that I’m sort of good on everything (and that credit may be more responsibly used in 2027 for that time period between Metroid and Final Fantasy). I might even skip Ocarina remake at launch right now because I feel like I won’t be able to finish enough games before GTA6 to be able to actually warrant the purchase. But… it’s Ocarina, so I might say screw it too. I dunno. I like what I’m playing a lot too, so there’s no wanting to rush, though there is a wanting for more time to play games.
Honestly, as much as I’ve been complaining about gaming this generation, September through the end of the year feels crazy. It’s sort of weird I was playing my Playdate more than my PlayStation over the summer (May through August) because holy cow, do I feel like games are finally so good again!
Still working on Ruffy & the Riverside, and maaaybe some Boltgun, but the former is my main focus right now.
I got back in Magic The Gathering Arena for a free to play adventure. Then I'll probably finish Momodora: RUTM and if I have time progress in Chorus.
Still dipping in and out of Samson. (PC). It's a surprisingly good 'pick up and play' title. A little rough around the edges, but another recent patch saw a few more improvements. As I said last week, I've no real complaints for the £10 I paid for the game.
Finished all 13 levels on Darkenstein 3D (PC). That was fun!
All the talk of E-Day saw me fire up the original Gears of War (Series X) and it holds up very well. However, I'm finding it to be quite tough!
Also on Xbox I've just finished the Afroditi quest line in Immortals Fenyx Rising.
It's a fun game to be sure, however in typical Ubisoft fashion quests are laborious - they just drag on, unnecessarily so.
Think it's high-time I looked at one of my unplayed purchases. No idea what though. 🤔
