What is good in life? To drive your enemies before you and get free expansions for games that have been sitting in your Steam library for years. That's how the Conan quote goes, right? Back in May, barbarian fantasy survival sandbox Conan Exiles received a major update and a rebrand to Conan Exiles Enhanced. It was an impressive free upgrade, improving graphics, optimizing performance for Steam Deck, plus allowing players to hop freely between the main game's world and the Isle Of Siptah expansion. But Funcom aren't just resting on their laurels/skull-thrones, and have announced a free new expansion to be released in four parts.

The new story arc is titled Legacy of the Giant-Kings, and your quest for these large lads begins July 21st. The first chapter will add a new dungeon beneath the Unnamed City, one of the more dangerous and haunted regions on the world map. Players will team up with a character named Akhamet to dig into the tombs and caverns under the demon-infested city, culminating in a throwdown with a major new boss.

There are also some quality-of-life updates coming alongside the new quest, along with a way to repair and restore Legendary equipment that was previously a very finite, slowly degrading resource. This being the world of Crom (a god so unpleasant that he prefers being cursed over worshipped), it sounds like fixing up this top-tier equipment might be a bit more involved than just hammering it back into shape.

All of this is building on the impressive Enhanced update, which halved the game's install size down to a more manageable 68 GB, added support for multiple characters on one account, improved mod tools and capped it off with an upgrade to Unreal 5, resulting in a significant glow-up for the game. The upgrade hasn't gone unnoticed, either - the game briefly returned to player counts close to its original 2017 launch, meaning there's plenty of folks to help drive your enemies before you, if you're playing on public servers.

The first Legacy of the Giant-Kings update lands on July 21st, but Conan Exiles Enhanced and the Isle of Siptah expansion are available now on Steam.
