Today's other big roguelike graduating from early access (the first being Quasimorph) is a little brighter and cuter, but still involves shooting and slashing vast numbers of evil demons. Sephiria casts you as a cute little pixel bunny (or one of their other critter friends in online co-op) on a quest to save their concerningly flammable/delicious village from a coming apocalypse. Racking up many an upgrade since its Early Access debut in 2024, developers TEAM HORAY are finally sending their baby out into the big wide overworld.

Whether slashing or shooting, Sephiria's core is familiar mouse-and-keyboard-centric action RPG stuff, familiar to anyone who has played a Gungeon or Diablo. What sets it apart is the loot and gear systems. Magic tablets placed in your inventory can be rotated, empowering the equipment around them in a distinct pattern and giving you a growing list of passive and active buffs. Between runs (alone or in co-op online), you can take on side-quests in your cute little town and gradually unlock meta-progression options to help improve those odds and get you a little closer to those end credits.

The launch version adds the final (sixth) chapter of the main story, with two new bosses and one mini-boss, and, of course, the ending. There's also a bunch of new loot to find, including 3 artifacts, 19 miracles, 7 tables and 12 new potion types. There's new upgrade paths for the dagger, crossbow, staff, and great sword weapon types, and a few new quality-of-life features. Tutorials are now in your lore book to refresh your memory; a side-bag lets you swap and sort inventory more. The patch notes are extensive, and you can read them here.

There's no major roadmap for future updates, but given the game's success and critical praise so far (just shy of the Overwhelmingly Positive bracket on Steam), I'd be very surprised if Sephiria didn't continue growing for at least another year or two.

Sephiria is out now for £12.79/$15 with a hefty 40% launch discount running until August 10th, and further discounts if you own Hammerwatch 2, Dungreed (the studio's previous game), or recent incremental survivors-like Ascend to ZERO.
