Anyone who's been around the internet or gaming space in the last few decades will instantly know the good, old-fashioned MMO; now, a good fraction of those people will also roll their eyes at the mere mention of the genre, and for good reason: it's become stale.
However, Everlast: Undying Tale wants to have its go at switching things up and delivering an experience reminiscent of your favourite MMOs (think RuneScape, World of Warcraft, and so on and so forth), by offering a more relaxed, action-oriented 'MMO-Lite' experience, while still keeping that satisfying progression that makes the genre so appealing to this day.
Venture into the hand-crafted fantasy world of Sarkis, which the Undying are overtaking, and try to stop them; split into 100-player lobbies, embark on quests solo or with friends, build your character through skill-based progression, and take part in server events.
All of these features make it a "Love letter to MMO classics in an Action RPG package", complete with varied biomes and areas, such as dull swamps and tall, bright rolling hills, all begging to be explored and full of secrets to discover.
The classic inspiration really shines through the character progression. Taking heavy inspiration from classic titles in the MMO genre, Everlast allows you to train many different skills such as woodworking, occultism, fishing and more, that all can be levelled up in the classic MMO way but with intentional speed, so it won't take you hours just to do one thing – which personally is what takes me away from certain MMOs, so this, for me, is a welcome change for sure.
Shared events also take the spotlight, with a plethora of server-wide tasks that range from colossal battles, huge harvests, and even the rebuilding of your world with the "desolate zones" that can be built and improved upon permanently.
Everlast really speaks to me as someone who struggles getting into MMO RPGs due to the steep learning curve and the amount of hours required, basically bordering on being a job, so if you also have issues like this, I would highly recommend you go and check out Everlast: Undying Tale.
