As Steam buckles under the weight of lazy AI-generated slop, we've got another troublesome tale relating to the controversial technology – this time involving Amanita Design's Machinarium.
Earlier this week, Sylvio Drouin, CEO of Nura Studios (a company focused on creating games with AI), posted what appeared to be a tribute to the 2009 title. It was clearly GenAI, apparently created by feeding Machinarium's unique, unmistakable look into an AI model (thanks, PC Gamer).
Unsurprisingly, Amanita Design wasn't impressed.
"The audacity to feed Machinarium assets to AI, make AI slop animations, and call it a love letter…," the studio tweeted. "Love letters are supposed to be handwritten. This looks disgusting and has nothing to do with us or our craft."
Drouin would later tweet that he was "sorry" for the post, which has since been deleted. "We thought it was an homage to your amazing work and I already deleted the posts, again please accept our sincere apologies."
Thankfully, fans of the game can finally look forward to a true sequel, as Machinarium 2 was announced recently.
