Excellent arcade racer Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds sure is going to some weird places with its upcoming second season of DLC updates. On the horizon, we've got Godzilla, Evangelion, Hello Kitty, SEGA arcade, Final Fantasy 7, and even more Persona stuff lined up. But for today, to wrap up the game's first season of DLC, we're going on a trip to the world of martial arts adventure cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender, with a new track, two playable characters (Aang and Katara) and a new set of vehicle parts.

The new track looks to be one of the most interesting yet, with elemental gates that unlock alternate routes based on earth, wind, air, and fire. While not quite as spectacular as some of the other tracks we've seen in the game (due to Avatar's slightly more grounded fantasy setting), it looks like it adds some fun twists to an already-unpredictable game, given the whole game's gimmick of letting you switch track mid-race.

While the full range of Avatar-themed goodies is only for players who pony up for either the original season pass or the Avatar Legends Pack directly, the most important addition - the new track on Lion Turtle Island - is available to everyone via the game's online mode. Those playing offline or solo won't see the new content unless they purchase it, however. But given how accessible the online mode is for the game, I'd just recommend playing it with other humans. It's a surprisingly casual and relaxing time.

While SEGA might not have settled on the most generous of solutions here, they have at least ensured that the game's online player base won't be split between haves and have-nots. You might not be able to play as Aang or Katara without paying money, but you can dunk on them on their own home turf while playing as Big the Cat, and that's what really matters.

This applies to all the DLC tracks in the game. The ever-expanding rotation for online multiplayer has done wonders for keeping the game fresh. Even if you stick with the original and free characters, Sonic's little racing universe grows a little bit more colorful every month or two, even if there are surprisingly few PC players amongst the cross-platform crowds.

The Avatar Legends Pack is out now for £5/$6, or as part of the £25/$30 first season pass. But as mentioned, if you're playing online, all you need to experience all of the new tracks (and race against, if not as, the new characters) is the base version of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, which has dropped in price to a quite reasonable £35/$40.
