Earlier this year, Steam set a new concurrent-player record, with over 42 million people online using the service.
Amazingly, that record has just been broken again, with SteamDB reporting a whopping 43,505,724 users online simultaneously (thanks, Eurogamer).
That figure covers all players logged into Steam globally, both in-game and out. The actual number of players in a game at any one point is over 14 million, also a new record for Valve's service, which is now 23 years old.
The Steam Autumn sale just ended, which could explain the sudden surge in online players, but whatever the reason, these figures cement the fact that PC gaming has unquestionably become the main way for tens of millions of people worldwide to play.
