The perfect word to describe Well Dweller, and the one that sprang to mind as soon as I saw gameplay, is charming. Every part of Well Dweller is a feast for the eyes, with style and gameplay choices very reminiscent of Hollow Knight and Rayman Legends that make it look stunning.

Well Dweller is a 2D dark fairy-tale Metroidvania that is set in a dark and wretched kingdom where you embody a small bird named Glimmer, with a single matchstick and a single goal: burning the Queen to save his family.

Along the way, Glimmer can befriend the many creatures who roam the collapsing kingdom, such as Ilda the camping mouse and Looter the looter, who scavenges for wares throughout the kingdom. Along with these new characters, Glimmer will also need to reunite with his captured siblings, who were snatched by a crazed hunter one night, and return them safely to where they belong.

To do so, you can use many movement techniques to traverse this dangerous world, such as climbing and my personal favourite: throwing your matchstick into a wall and using it as a trampoline. These allow for even more fun in exploration and platforming as you progress through the dilapidated kingdom.

In classic Metroidvania style, find trinkets throughout this kingdom to upgrade your abilities and create a playstyle built for you, while exploring a large map of winding sections to discover puzzles to solve and bosses to beat, all while making your way to the Queen to finally turn her to ashes with your trusty matchstick.

If you have ever enjoyed Hollow Knight in the past, then I think you should check out Well Dweller; it grasps that same dark fairy tale atmosphere and runs with it, while doing many things that will make it distinct from its Metroidvania brothers and sisters.
