Bloodborne meets PS1 in this Gothic co-op RPG 1

Gunmetal Gothic’s aesthetic is best described as Bloodborne with a touch of Resident Evil, and despite that sounding slightly peculiar, it works surprisingly well and looks amazing despite its demo-only state.

Gunmetal Gothic is an online co-op RPG where you are tasked with saving your city from the clutches of evil, and looking stylish while doing so. It sees you, and up to 3 others, take on “demonic machines” that have overrun your city and taken control.

You are armed with various weapons to take down these creatures, and have the ability to make unique loadouts using a “point-buy system” that creates builds with “meaningful tradeoffs”. From guns to mystical powers, you have the freedom to test out a wide range of combat options.

Where Gunmetal Gothic really shines is its world design and overall aesthetic. Its retro 3D style and CRT-esque overlay (which you can toggle off) add to the already dark gothic design philosophy, making each towering building look ominous and imposing, yet real, lived-in, and deserted.

This creates an extremely appealing game world that drew me in instantly, and if you are even remotely into gothic culture, you're sure to love the intentionally gloomy presentation.

Overall, Gunmetal Gothic is a great stab at an online co-op experience that explores a beautifully melancholic world; it is shaping up to be a great full game. It will be releasing in June 2027 into Early Access, with the price yet to be confirmed – but if it sounds up your alley, it does have a free demo out now on Steam.
