The Blood of Dawnwalker, headed by former CD Projekt Red employee and Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, has been in the eyes of many people this year for its unique gameplay mechanics and stunning visuals that scratch the medieval itch for many players across the world, and since its release yesterday, it has garnered much positive acclaim and praise from fans and critics alike.

Dawnwalker is an action RPG set in a dark fantasy 14th-century world, where you embody Coen, a "human by day and vampire by night" who is fighting to save his family within a limited time frame, with various quests slowly moving time forward.

This unique style of gameplay means every choice has a consequence that holds weight, which seems to have been a hit with the players, as it is sitting at a mostly positive rating on Steam as of today.

Here are a few reviews from other outlets to see what they have to say.

Playstation Universe (10/10): Supported by sharp combat, deep day-night synergy, a fantastic score, and a lived-in world, the game delivers on its ambitious promises. Minor hiccups like stiff facial animations or initial calendar anxiety do nothing to diminish what Rebel Wolves has achieved here. The Blood of Dawnwalker isn't just an outstanding RPG; it is a landmark statement in game design that proves restraint, atmosphere, and meaningful player agency beat mindless scale every single time. An absolute, brilliantly executed dark fantasy masterpiece

IGN (9/10): The Blood of Dawnwalker is my new favorite vampire game and one of the best story-driven RPGs I’ve played in a long time. The day/night cycle that has you juggling human and vampiric forms is awesome, and the constraints placed on how you spend your limited time ends up being one of the coolest, most wonderfully stressful parts of the adventure. Combat has a bit of a learning curve to it, but gets under your skin in all the right ways once you get the hang of it. Combine that with a story filled with memorable characters, gut wrenching decisions, and more endings than I’m ever likely to see, and this adventure kept me firmly in its thrall. Even if you aren’t particularly into the vampire fantasy, this is one that any RPG fan should absolutely not miss.

The Gamer (4/5): There’s plenty to do in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and I’ve already spent a great deal of time wondering how different decisions might have shaped the outcomes, enough so that I will be playing through it again straight away. For a game I wasn’t entirely sure about at first, I’m happy to be walking away with a new addition to my lineup of favorite RPGs, and one that I’d love to see influence the genre.

GAMINGbible (9/10): The Blood of Dawnwalker deserves to be a new AAA mainstay, and I’d gladly join Coen on future ventures. Rebel Wolves’ debut outing is everything you could want from the former director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but it’s also something entirely new. Its time mechanic is risky - and a nightmare for completionists - but it adds a brilliant sense of urgency into the open-world. The Blood of Dawnwalker is all about consequence. Which quests should you tackle? As a human or a vampire? It’s entirely what you make of it, offering up a bold and engaging formula that I’d be glad to see walk away with 2026’s GOTY trophy.

Vice (10/10): Rebel Wolves may have built the game on familiar open-world RPG foundations, but The Blood of Dawnwalker ultimately establishes an identity entirely its own. Its ambitious storytelling, rewarding combat and excellent vampire mechanics make it a genuine Game of the Year contender, and an absolute must-play for RPG fans.

As these outlets show, The Blood of Dawnwalker has been met with critical acclaim, and if this vampire RPG sounds good enough to sink your teeth into, you can grab it on Steam for £59.99 right now – or, if you're feeling flush, even upgrade to the £69.99 Eclipse Edition, which contains some digital goodies.
