And we're wrapping up the day with a delightfully silly little game. Not horror, but perfectly fitting the Halloween mood. Tom the Postgirl is a darkly whimsical cartoon adventure about being the most curious little snoop in a village full of weirdoes, perverts, and freaks. I mean, with that kind of temptation, how could you NOT look in a few windows while you're delivering their mail?

From the chunk that I've played (sadly yet to reach the point where everything inevitably spins out into absolute chaos), it feels a lot like a French counterpart to the aggressively British Thank Goodness You're Here. There's so many little things wrong with this world, and your character isn't going to be making anything better. She is going to deliver the post, though, even if she gets to read the occasional letter or rummage through a parcel or two.

There is some potential for benevolence here. In the first act, your delivery to a local farmer causes their barn to burn down, and their chickens to fly the coop. Before you leave for the next part of the story, there's the option to track down the errant hens, slap a postage stamp on each and punt them back home. Violent, but all's well that ends well. I am fully expecting things to get worse and more twisted as the red-hooded postal menace continues her rounds, and I'm all here for it.

As with Thank Goodness You're Here, this feels like a world designed for mischief. Just sickly and chaotic enough that being an additional agent of chaos doesn't feel out of place. The kind of world where, once everything DOES go careening off the rails, you can smile, shrug, and go 'Oops!' instead of feeling the weight of your sins upon your back. Unlike the impassive little guy you played as in Thank Goodness, Tom here has a personality, and she's a quietly, cheerfully malevolent force.

While she'll do her job and sometimes help out, stepping on local animals will elicit little more than a shrug. Her endless curiosity pushes her into increasingly dangerous situations, albeit seemingly dangerous only for the people around her. It's like playing through a twisted children's picture book where there are dreadful little secrets behind every cardboard door, and it's charming as heck.

Tom the Postgirl is out now for £9.09/$10, with a 10% launch discount until November 5th. It's also a bit cheaper if bought with the photo-snapping Penko Park or the recently-released, also postal-themed dark comedy The Mailroom.
