Vampy's Big Day gives you the tried-and-tested formula of playing as a supernatural vampire, complete with an aversion to the sun, big fangs – the whole show, basically – but slaps a fresh coat of (MS) paint on it in a way I haven't seen done in a game before, making Vampy an adorable protagonist who can be anything under the sun: good, evil, morally grey. You choose his fate (be nice, though; he is only small after all).
You take on the role of an exiled, ridiculed vampire sent away from his people because of his strength and stature, both of which are admittedly quite low, and now choose his path forward in this unbelievably charming, hand-crafted world.
Vampy can be as virtuous or villainous as you choose, and each chomp and chew of villagers affects his uncertain fate, while each act of aid and each completed quest push the scales further in a positive direction. Vampy can choose to be good or give in to his kind's ways, and either path changes his life forever.
An unlikely friendship will also develop throughout this short adventure between Vampy and the sun fairy, Solea. Sun fairies have the powerful ability to change where the sun is facing, allowing Vampy to move throughout the shadows without worrying about the bright, painful glare.
Despite their differences, Solea sees a destiny in store for Vampy, a particularly important one: that of the Ashborn, a being said to either destroy the sun entirely or become its saviour, with her believing that Vampy can be righteous; you are given the reins to decide if she was right or not as you embark on your adventure.
Throughout this world, you will find many different NPC's, often hostile, and small quests to embark on; this, coupled with how amazingly goofy but charming the environments are, makes you want to explore it to its fullest, as the MS Paint style really just puts a smile on your face for the whole journey.
If you like vampires and vampire fiction but feel like it's gotten a little too dark and depressing for your liking, pick up Vampy's Big Day, or try the free demo on Steam right now. You have nothing to lose, except for your eternal soul.
