After the launch of the famed Steam Machine, many people have also been scrambling to get the all-new Steam Controller, which has sadly led to a big price hike because you can't currently buy one right away from Valve.
In a prime example of 'supply and demand', some resellers and third-party stores are having a field day with pricing.
I can't say I didn't expect this controller shortage, especially given that it isn't packaged with the console and is simply an optional extra for committed gamers. This issue is also partly Valve's fault, as it now says the pad won't be available again until 2027.
"When we launched Steam Controller last month, we quickly saw that initial demand exceeded our expectations," said Valve back in June. "We have no plans to stop making Steam Controller. But as we look at the current demand compared to how many we know we can make by the end of the year, we want to manage expectations as much as we can with regard to when folks can expect to receive their order."

The company then gave three 'order windows' for the pad, with September and December being the first two. 2027 is the third order window, and if you buy one from Valve now, that's when you'll get it.
Prices for the Steam Controller on third-party sites are hovering around the £150 mark. Play Asia currently has it on sale for £195, and, at one point, a U-Buy seller had it on sale for £500 (the listing now appears to have either been removed or sold) – all of which makes me wonder why Valve didn't do a better job of having enough controllers available for everyone.
However, this issue isn't that important unless you have your heart set on the Steam Controller, since you can use a plethora of alternate pads with the Steam Machine (unless, of course, you really want the feature where your controller screams if dropped).
So, if you are looking for a Steam Controller, you might be out of luck – unless you want to shell out hundreds in hard-earned local currency.
